The Piano In The Living Room

I was having a meeting yesterday with T Dogg http://www.guitarskauai.com/ and we were discussing places to stay on the road......Seattle in particular...and I remembered the piano in the living room of the house we rented and joyfully inhabited on a 3 day stay around a gig at Town Hall. The 'we' , in this case, was myself http://www.myspace.com/slackkeylady, Shawn Livingston Mosely http://www.shawnlivingston.com/, his fiance Heather, and Stephen Inglis.http://www.stepheninglis.com/
The home was fairly secluded so we (Shawn is classically trained and Steve and I both play) could play the thing into the wee hours.....which we took advantage of! We took turns during the day....playing for awhile, then then someone else would take over. We rehearsed for our show promoting the "Na Po Makaole " CD by S &S (not the saimin but Shawn and Steve) then, the night after the show, must've been like 1AM, after shooting pool, drinking beer, and being entertained by an amazing magician that flew a card with our signatures out of the deck and onto the ceiling of the Knarr Shipwreck lounge...where it remains to this day......we started in with the piano - in the living room- of our magic bungalow. We started making stuff up...very 1AM post Knarr-bar-witty-as-diddy stuff...none of which I can remember now except for a line Steve came up with about a disgruntled man "living a Kirkland Signature life with my Kirkland Signature wife"........we were rolling. God it was funny.

I have a piano in my living room BUT, I can't play it after 10 and the f-ing F string is broken....which irks me no end...day or night.....but ohhhhh. that Kirkland Signature night....in WA....with the piano in the living room.

I am looking forward to reuniting with Steve this Sunday at the Slack Key Guitar Festival - Kauai Style......and jamming with the 'Kirkland Signature' guy. Congratulations are in order in that he and his wife, Christa, will be having to consider buying critical masses of 'Kirkland Signature' diapers soon.

Tyler Barnes www.guitarskauai.com has encouraged me to 'blog baby blog' so blog I shall......and this is where and when I shall begin.

I just did a show at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville, http://www.church-of-the-pacific.org/ with 'Lilia' www.myspace.com/kauaililia (myself on guitar and vocal, Anela Lauren - harp with Phil Watts on sax and flute and Rodger Jacobs on e bass). Maybe we'll post some of the HD video on YouTube.....anyway....I was concerned that we would not have as good of a turn out as we needed to 'break even' in that my past appearances there have been...shall we say....under attended. SO we really 'got on the horn' and sent and received good PR and Lo and Behold.....the folks came out for us....a nice CROWD! So nice that during the first song my voice was cracking because ...I was so grateful ....I was on the verge of tears! It was a beautiful thing. MAHALO BIG to all who attended.

I just spoke with Walter Bengston. I met him and his wife Marie in the early 90's when I was playing at Wranglers in Waimea. They believed in me and gave me $500 to record. I started making studio quality demos with the money, which led to my becoming a recording artist.....a huge gesture of encouragement and validation from Walter and Marie. Sadly, Marie just passed away last month and Walter is having a hard time dealing with it, and is challenged with health issues of his own. Please say a prayer for them.

Gearing up for the Slack key Fest - Kauai Style this Sunday. http://www.slackkeyfestival.com/ I plan an ecclectic set with different accompaniests (sp?)....we'll see what actually happens!!!!

OK ....there's my 1st blog....ALOHAAAAAAAAAAAA
